Emerging technologies in the AI world — OpenAI
Hey Siri, how long will it take me to get to work? Hey Siri, play music I like. These are some basic sentences that help us start our day. Our lives are so deeply integrated with Artificial Intelligence that we fail to recognise its significance in our everyday lives.
Well, hello there. If you ever browsed through self-proclaimed specialists on LinkedIn, you would have often come across people saying, "The human race has been progressing significantly, and we have exploited every technological resource at our hands. What more can humans add to their technological devices?" My views on the statement– I'm afraid I blatantly have to disagree. We are far from reaching the maximum potential of technology; a relevant example of this is Artificial Intelligence. We have employed it heavily within everyday operations and yet we don't know its fullest potential. Forget reaching maximum potential. We don't even know what else AI can do.
OpenAI is the first company which is a dedicated research laboratory to Artificial Intelligence. OpenAI has been defying all sorts of limitations people think AI have. OpenAI has managed to build some really cool products that have changed the market and have revolutionised the way we look at AI.
Earlier last year, OpenAI launched software known as DALL-E 2. This software can essentially create a realistic image with just its user-entered description. Plus, this software is not superficial. It even focuses on small details such as shadows, reflections, texture and whatnot. This software has grown exponentially and is allowing artists and individuals to create masterpieces from just their vivid imaginations. It is groundbreaking. Here is one very simple example.
I entered the most random prompt: an oil painting of an Indian while eating avocado in front of a temple.
And these were the results I got in just 10 seconds.
I can't tell you how cool this is from a technical standpoint. Just think of this within 10 seconds; this software is probably performing millions of actions to give you the desired result. Straight up amusing.
But this is not it. OpenAI broke the internet this week by launching something unimaginably cool. They lauched a chtabot. Not just any chatbot, a chatbot that can do anything and everything. Named ChatGPT, this prototype model can write essays for you and do all your copywriting work within milliseconds. Not just simple and basic questions. This software is so advanced that it was able to ace examinations such as the MBA, USMLE and more. I personally tested it out, and it blew my mind. This software is the perfect concise Google. All you need to do is enter a prompt and the chatbot will render answers within seconds.
The best part? It is the way it interacts and delivers knowledge. You could ask it the most complex topic and it'll give you an answer in the simplest of words. You can even ask ChatGPT to explain a concept to you as if you are a child. Here is an example
You can paste your entire college essay into ChatGPT and it will fix it for you- it will enhance the sentence structure and fix grammatical errors, all while keeping the meaning of the essay the same. It is crazy how this will have the potential to change the world.
Probably the best thing that ChatGPT can do. It can write code for you. Complex code and even explain it. In fact, the next following lines of code were written by ChatGPT itself.
I asked ChatGPT to write me Python code for this exact prompt, "Write code for me in Python that allows me to record and output facial expressions of subjects using a camera. For the database feel free to use libraries such as OpenCV"
This is what it outputted.
It is crazy how it even delivered the right steps to run this code on my laptop locally. This software embarks a new revolution for humans.
OpenAI and its products will change how we work, function and live. This is scary and promising at the same time. Our world will probably have more efficient technologies like this. It will spark a new way to innovate products. But at the same time, it may kill jobs and increase academic dishonesty. There are plenty of advantages and disadvantages that accompany this revolution.
Regardless of the uncertainty surrounding AI today, I'm sure in the next 10 years, OpenAI will be the market leader in this space.
That's it. That's all I have to say about AI right now. If you have any thoughts or ideas surrounding AI, I would love to listen to them. Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter and I'll catch y'all next week. Hang tight and don't forget to update your devices.
Best,
